SERVICE AT LONG ISLAND JEWISH PARKER PAVILION – GERIATRICS

Dear 7th Grade Students and Parents:

Here are instructions and guidelines concerning your Community Service for Confirmation at Long Island Jewish Parker Pavilion. The purpose of your service there is to help get the patients from their floors down to the auditorium where they attend Mass and return them to their floors.

  1. Plan to arrive by 1 :45 p.m. at the latest. As you enter from Lakeville Road, the building is on your right (Blue canopy in front)
  2. Enter the building, continue straight ahead as far as you can go to the lounge area. Sign-in & wait there for the rest of the students. We will not give credit for attending if you do not sign the attendance sheet. Mr. or Mrs. Puszkydra (pronounced -Push-ked-ra) will be there to guide you. You will be assigned a specific task. Please be courteous and respectful to them.
  3. Mass is celebrated at 2:45 p.m. After Mass you may be asked to help serve refreshments. You will then help to return the patients to their floors. You must sign-out. Do not sign-out until you actually leave.
  4. You will be finished at approximately 4:00 p.m.

REMINDERS:

When you visit LIJ Parker Geriatrics Pavilion you are a guest of the elderly, you are in their home. You must give them every sign of respect, courtesy and love. You are expected to be on your best behavior, do whatever you can help. Be patient with the elderly.

Listen carefully to directions given you and follow them as best you can. Complete the task given to you in an orderly fashion.

Boys should not wear hats or caps while inside the building. It is disrespectful. Please do not chew gum or eat candy or other foods while doing your service. Girls should not bring pocketbooks. Cell phone must be turned off while in the building.

As Catholic young adults you should know how to behave at Mass. There should be no talking or whispering. Your eyes and attention should be focused on the Altar. You not only represent yourself but you also represent our parish to all who are around you.

Please make every effort to go to L.U. with your group. If, for some very important reason you cannot go on your assigned day, try to switch with someone in another group so that there is not a shortage of volunteers. If you can not switch with someone else, then do your service on any other Saturday, preferably on the Saturday before you are assigned. You must make up any day you miss. (be sure to sign- in).

If you have any questions or concerns, please come to the office, or speak with your class teacher.

We are here to be of assistance to you as you prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Fall of next year. It is our hope that, as you continue on your journey you will become the wonderful Christian that God intends you to be.
